Staying connected to home with LogMeIn

Via the BBC, of all places, I read yesterday about the free remote desktop utility, LogMeIn. And after giving it a test-drive today, I’m smitten.

Available for both Mac and PC, LogMeIn is a remote control facility for your computers. After registering, you download and install an application on each machine that you want to be able to control. Then, when you suddenly realise you’ve left that important file on your home PC, you can log into the logmein.com site, select the relevant computer name, and take complete remote control of your other machine.

Our Facebook application - friend finder for hotels

At the day job we’ve just launched a little side-project. Stay Together is a Facebook application that mashes up the existing Events data with Google Maps and our own worldwide hotels database, to let you find and book accommodation near where your event is taking place.

New applications a-go-go

For some reason, owning a Mac has made me much more amenable to spending money on little applications; I probably paid for only one or two apps in 8+ years of PC ownership, but in the two or three weeks that I’ve been a Mac user I’ve purchased (or am thinking of purchasing) quite a few useful applications. Maybe it’s the pretty icons that sway me…
