Neutral Milk Hotel: In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Filed under Music on 18.12.07
I listen to a lot of different music—from Mozart to Metallica and everything in between—but this last week, my Last.fm charts have been dominated by just one album.
Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea has been on near-constant rotation since I received it courtesy of an Amazon wishlist Christmas gift from Carolyn Wood (impeccable taste, as ever). From home to iPod to work and back again, it’s the first thing I put on, and when it’s finished I go straight back to the beginning.

Review: The New Pornographers, KOKOs, London - Oct 4th 2007
Filed under Music on 5.10.07
There is no Dan and no Neko, but as The New Pornographers close out the brief European leg of their current tour in the luscious surroundings of Camden’s KOKO club, it doesn’t seem important that only three-quarters of the band are here tonight—all that matters are the pitch-perfect pop songs, and they have those in abundance.

Coding music

My slightly embarrassing musical past
Filed under Music, Personal on 5.06.06
While I wait for iTunes to import the tracks I’ve chosen for my latest podcast, it seems an opportune moment to write a little something about my musical history. I’ve also finally got round to ripping all my old demo tapes to MP3 format, so there are some choice tracks linked at the end of this post.

Partly because it’s way cool, and partly to see how this embedded video thing from Google Video works… check out this amazing 8-minute drum solo by a 12-year-old kid!
Man I wish I were that good – I think I might start training one of the girls now; start them young…

A .torrent too far...

After my recent foray into illegal music downloads I happened to mention to a work colleague that I was in search of various albums from my teen metal years, in particular Megadeth’s Rust In Peace.
