Internet semi-famous

Filed under The Site on 19.04.08

Yesterday saw a couple of spikes in site traffic. Jon Hicks mentioned my grid calculator during his presentation at FOWD, which instantly quadrupled the traffic to that page:

Tumbling

Filed under The Site on 2.10.07

For a while now I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a tumblelog—somewhere to capture the stuff that doesn’t warrant a full blog post, but needs more than a simple Twitter update; stupid ideas, amusing conversations with small children, links, videos, and pictures of cats accompanied by amusing captions. Okay, perhaps not so much of the latter.

Pink for October

Filed under General, The Site on 2.10.06

Like a bunch of other designers that I can’t be bothered to find links for, I’ve gone pink for october in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It took about 2 minutes, and I don’t care that the brown clashes. :)

Comment spam

Filed under The Site on 27.08.06

I was hit by over 30 comment spam in the last day or so, so I’ve upgraded to Textpattern 4.0.3 and installed a couple of anti-spam filters:

My preliminary testing seems to indicate that they don’t work, but this might be because I am cookied as the site owner – anyway, if you see anything weird going on with the site, let me know.

Vote for me!

Filed under Design, The Site on 12.04.06

Christian Montoya emailed to let me know that this site has been picked as one of only seven finalists over at Liquid Designs, the CSS showcase concentrating solely on fluid and elastic layouts.

I’m honoured (and not a little surprised) to be selected alongside such beautiful sites as Vivabit (designed by Cameron Moll), Kev Adamson and Stan, and in that company I obviously have no chance of winning – but if you’re the sort of person that digs birds and sky then head over there and vote for me!

Random song lyrics: Update

Filed under SEO, The Site on 23.11.05

Further to my lyrical plan to infiltrate search results by including random song lyrics in my homepage <title> tag, I can report that I am now:

The originally spidered title of “Round here we always stand up straight” has disappeared from the search results, though.

A lyrical plan

Filed under The Site, Textpattern on 5.11.05

One of the less-obvious things I added to this site for its recent reboot was a random song lyric tagline on the homepage. I wanted something that was interesting and kinda cool, but that didn’t require me to expend much mental energy to come up with.

Rebooted

Filed under The Site, Internet on 1.11.05

So here it is at last, the rebooted Watchmaker Project 3.0 (although technically it’s actually the sixth incarnation, only two of the previous ones really count).

Hopefully my .htaccess hackage will mean that existing RSS subscribers will now receive the updated FeedBurner powered feed; if you don’t want to receive every single update, just update your feed subscriptions (see the bottom-right of the homepage for the various options now available).

One more day

Filed under The Site on 31.10.05

So, there’s only a little more than 24 hours left until the big reboot, and what does my laptop decide to do? Start making that “chugga-chugga-chugga” hard disk gone wrong noise and running really slowly, interspersed with hanging for no reason.

Liveblogging your ambition

Filed under The Site, GTD on 21.10.05

Screenshot of future projects section of my site

One of the features that I will be introducing on The Watchmaker Project following its November 1st redesign and Reboot will be a ‘Projects’ area of the site. This new section will be an alternative blog, allowing me to post thoughts, progress and announcements on various personal projects, with each project summarised on the Projects home page (complete with natty little icons).
