Notes on @media sessions
Filed under media, Events on 22.09.06
Clearing some of the crap off my desk this morning, I came across my notes from this year’s @media sessions which I had yet to transcribe, so here they are (for my reference and yours).

@media four columns with equally aligned links - solved!
Filed under media, CSS on 18.06.06
If you were in Dan Cederholm’s Bulletproof Web Design presentation at @media, you might remember a German guy at the back of the room asking Dan how he might approach a design that required four equal-height columns containing variable content, but with consistently aligned links at the bottom of each column.

@media 2006: In Review
Filed under media on 18.06.06
Another @media has come and gone, and if perhaps the blogosphere buzz was not at the same level as 2005, the conference itself was far, far bigger.
For most of the two days, simultaneous presentations were taking place, bookended by keynotes and panels. This approach, although one I suggested in my write-up of last year’s event, had both a positive and negative effect; obviously the dual tracks meant that there were more speakers, more topics and more to choose from; but it also meant that on occasion there were two sessions that I wanted to see that clashed. One of my comments on the obligatory feedback form was that perhaps a more strongly-themed separation might work, with perhaps code examples and practical theory in one, while the other featured design and business-related talks.

Okay, this is my last post on the subject of @media, but I just have to say that this is far and away the best photo of the entire conference:

@media: A personal perspective

This is probably going to be quite a lengthy entry, as I want to talk about both the event itself, the seminars and sessions; and also the evening events and social meet-and-greet stuff (I should also apologise to Adam Howell in advance – warning, may contain references to “gurus”). ;)

Tomorrow, tomorrow...

Less than 24 hours to go until the web event of the year – @media – and I am beginning to quite look forward to it. The opportunity for lots of people whose sole connection is leaving occasional comments on occasional websites to meet and pretend they’ve known each other for years is shaping up to be as exciting as SxSW was to our stateside cousins (some of whom have even been tempted across the pond to experience what we pretend is warm weather for London in June).

@media here I come

Nothing like leaving it to the last minute, is there?

At the eleventh hour my boss has decided that it would be beneficial for me to attend the web geek pissup web standards learning experience of the year, @media2005. Two days of CSS-ified seminars and presentations from the biggest names in the business – plus the occasional beer in the evening might be on the cards too…
