- Yeah – I was thinking maybe a central point to register your interest in geek get-togethers (thereby providing a way to coordinate people around the country and get in touch with like-minded geeks in your area), an ‘upcoming events’ calendar to advertise stuff, and a place to post stories/photos/etc.

- But what makes for a “geekend”? Are we talking just sitting around talking web design/standards/etc. or are we talking sci-fi conventions/48-hour gaming sessions/meeting up for Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire/watching an entire season of 24 in one day/etc.?
Not that I’ve been known to do all of the above, noooo… - #3

- “Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire”: Never!
“watching an entire season of 24 in one day” been there, done that :) and actually an entire season only lasts for 18 hours which would leave 6 hours to organise.
From what DotJay, Patrick, Matt and I were talking about I think this would a web standards geekend but I could (and have been known to be ) wrong. - #4

- Great url!
I think it could be used for people to register groups like Flickr (@Media group, Accessify Group etc) and have a message board created for them. They can chat about meetups and then whenever a new date is arranged it could automatically email everyone in the group. You could even go a bit further and have photo albums (Like Doug Bowmans on Stopdesign)
Just an Idea, Although I am with Alex, Watching 24 straight through is cool but you can only do each series once. - #5

- It obviously has to have geek theme. So going with this why not create a geek website. With interests reviews/articles on anything geek. Theres no editor as the users themselves vote for the top articles and anyone can submit them. That way the content of the site is constantly streaming in but only the popular articles are shown on the face

- Dave: Trouble with that is that there are already so many geek product review sites that it would be next to impossible to make a dent in the market.
I also wanted to target it more at the idea of “events” than just content. - #7

- Why not just a chance for geeks to meet but with no emphasis on geekery stuff, which, quite frankly being a bit of a dipshit, I’m uncomfortable with anyway. Perhaps a Golf weekend, Paint ball gubbins, Go carting, Canoeing or a weekend at the Oxton’s. Not anything essentially geek related but a bonding/face to names, Oh go on then Guinness Extra Cold Ta, type o’ thing.
Sorry can I squeeze past I just need to get my coat. - #8
1.) organize a geek party every weekend and use the website to promote it? :)
or
2.) let people post stories about their own geekend experiences
