Fix my 'fox

Jun 21 2005

Somehow I’ve managed to lose the ‘open in new tab’ middle-click functionality from Firefox. Middle-clicking now does the same thing as Alt+Tab, and cycles through the open applications.

Can anyone shed any light on what might have happened, and more importantly how to fix it?

I don’t think this is something that you can set in Firefox.

It sounds like something else is grabbing hte event and using it as some sort of “hotkey” functionality?

Have you updated your mouse driver recently? More probable is the fact that Windows may have updated your mouse driver through Windows update as they do sometimes.

Good luck, that must be annoying…

Actually this thing has happened to me before. Suddenly it just wouldn’t work properly (yet worked like a charm in Opera, my main browser). This maybe a Firefox related problem, I was too lazy to look into it.

Have you installed any new extensions ? Try disabling them working backwards from the most recently installed.

Have you checked out about:config?

If you don’t know this one, type “about:config” (without the qoutes) in your address bar and hit enter. Now look for the parameter

browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick

Toggle this one to true.

Davy: I didn’t know about that one, but it was already set to true anyway. :(

Are you sure this functionality hasn’t been hijacked by a device driver or something?

Yeah, probably – trouble is I haven’t got the original device drivers for my mouse any more.
