The Book Baton
(or… Oh No, Not Another Meme!)
So there’s yet another one of these memes doing the rounds at the moment, this time book-related – at least it means I don’t have to write any actual content for a while…
Number of books on the shelf
On the three stacked bookshelves in the living room, a few odd books in the kitchen, and a couple of dozen in the bedroom, I estimate that we’ve got somewhere in the region of 3-400 books in the house. I also have a few still at my parents’ house.
Book I’m reading right now
I just finished Job by Robert Heinlein last night (strange book; I was expecting it to slowly disavow the lead character of his ultra-religious beliefs, but instead it ended with him going to Heaven to argue with St Peter and Hell to work for Satan!), so now I only have about four books I’m currently ‘reading’ – I think I’ll finish Love in the Time of Cholera next.
Last 5 books I read
As well as the afore-mentioned ‘Job’, the last five books I read (as far as I can remember) were:
- The Last Light of the Sun (Guy Gavriel Kay)
- Stupid White Men (Michael Moore)
- Porno (Irvine Welsh)
- Time Enough for Love (Robert Heinlein again)
Books that mean a lot to me
Aside from my obvious affection for Heinlein, I think I’ll just point to my previous article on my top five books to answer this part.
Passing this along to
Nobody – bah, humbug.
Oh, go on then – Kate, Andy, Jon, whoever…

- I just saw this today.
Sadly the last 5 books I read were:
1. Building Accessible Websites
2. Don’t Make Me Think
3. Web Standards Solutions
4. The Da Vinci Code
5. The Zen of CSS Design
As you can see only 1 of the last 5 was actually a fiction “book” the others are basically manuals.
I am feeling a lot like your My Life Right Now post at the moment
I’m going now, to go an take a long hard look at my life… - #3
Also, you’re making me want to dig out all my Heinlein books and re-read them again. Damnit!
