One more day

Oct 31 2005

So, there’s only a little more than 24 hours left until the big reboot, and what does my laptop decide to do? Start making that “chugga-chugga-chugga” hard disk gone wrong noise and running really slowly, interspersed with hanging for no reason.

I quickly backed up all my important stuff and did a System Restore, but it’s still not quite right. Luckily I’m 99% there with the redesign; all data is loaded into the new site (and new database; I hadn’t realised I was over my limit already, stupid Textpattern log table…) and there are just a few last tweaks to do.

Hopefully it will all go smoothly; the only thing I’m a bit worried about is the RSS feeds, which are moving to FeedBurner – I’m not 100% confident that I can release a “please update your feeds” post on the old feed once the new ones have gone live.

I finally got around to designing a new logo too – come back tomorrow to check it all out, explore the new site, and subscribe to a plethora of new feeds.

Hopefully.

I do believe you can stick a Permanent Redirect in your .htaccess file that usually most RSS readers follow:

Redirect 301 /blog/247/one-more-day?rss=1&section=blog http://feedburner.link.com/

hehe, I had problems with my DirectoryIndex rule in my .htaccess and it seems I have rebooted one day early. :)

Much luck though, looking forward to your redesign.

Ha ha – never mind! I really like your redesign; nice colour scheme and icon details. Comment styling is fantastic too – I always run out of creative steam when I get to styling the comments…

Well to be honest I had three different comment styles before this one, and I didn’t like any of them. They were overbloated. Fully resizeable definition lists with gradients and rounded edges that were just too much.

This is (as usual) a simple solution, it came out of nowhere and I am quite happy with it, but am very happy because people seem to like it. They actually are one of my favorite things to style on a web page. :) Forms bumm me out though … I tend to reuse code for them, and I hate to admit it … :(
