I’ve been tagged with the five things meme by Mel; I’m never one to pass up the opportunity for an easy entry requiring no actual thought, so here goes.

Five things you (probably) didn’t know about Matthew Pennell

  1. I played the violin between the ages of 7 and 18, culminating in leading the city orchestra and being presented with the yearly prize for best young musician
  2. I once slept under a hedge by a railway line in New Jersey when penniless, after being chased by a street gang
  3. I got Ruth Maddoc drunk at a Christmas party where I was working the bar
  4. I used to live with UK telly star and advertising eye-candy Cordelia Bugeja, back when she began to get famous on Channel 5
  5. I’m painfully shy, but rely on bullish arrogance to give the impression of being fairly well-balanced on average ;)

Wow, Matthew! I seriously would’ve never guessed that you’ve experienced so many varied things.

Chased by street gangs? Have you gone into more depth about this because that little tidbit of info stood out for me.

Hi Erik – I was young and naive and wandering around the less savoury parts of New Jersey at night with no money. In retrospect, stopping to chat to a group of young men – sitting on deckchairs on the sidewalk – who offered to give me a car was not the best idea… ;)
