What I listened to this year
Kottke just posted his top 25 artists of 2006 according to Last.fm, so I thought it’d be interesting to see what I’ve been mostly listening to this year as well.
Top 25
According to my Last.fm profile, these were my favourite artists over the last year:
- The New Pornographers
- U2
- Coldplay
- Guns N’ Roses
- System of a Down
- Muse
- The Wildhearts
- Poison
- Foo Fighters
- Radiohead
- Eminem
- Metallica
- Spoon
- Neko Case
- Soundgarden
- The Arcade Fire
- Kaiser Chiefs
- Paul Simon
- The Shins
- Faith No More
- The Rolling Stones
- Sigur Rós
- Belle and Sebastian
- Interpol
- Alice in Chains
The New Pornographers were runaway winners, with almost three times as many tracks as the next artist. There are no real surprises in there, although I don’t remember listening to that much U2.
I think the chart reflects my two frequent listening habits; one, when I discover something new I will listen to it over and over and over again (thus TNP, Coldplay’s X&Y, Neko Case); and two, I’ve spent a lot of time this year listening to music from my teenage years (cf. Poison, Metallica, Faith No More) which has probably skewed the chart slightly further into the rock/metal category than it really deserves.
Anyway, that was apparently my 2006 in music – what were you listening to?
