What I'll (Probably) Be Doing At SXSW
Amongst all the party planning I almost forgot that there are actual opportunities for learnin’ at SXSW (less than a week away now!)—so, after perusing the daytime programming here are the likely places I’ll be over the 4/5 days of the conference:
Friday March 9th
- 5:00 How To Rawk SXSW (Tantek Celik, Min Jung Kim et al)
Saturday March 10th
- 10:00 Writing Better (Greg Storey, Ethan Marcotte et al)
- 11:30 The Influence of Art in Design (Dan Rubin, Anton Peck, Dave Shea et al)
- 2:00 Everything’s Gone Douglas Coupland
- 3:30 Grids Are Good and How To Design With Them (Mark Boulton, Khoi Vinh)
- 4:05 ???
- 5:00 High Class and Low Class Web Design (Chris Fahey, Khoi Vinh et al)
Sunday March 11th
- 10:00 Why We Should Ignore Users (Robert Hoekman, Christina Wodtke et al)
- 11:30 Design Workflows at Work (Bryan Veloso, Jeff Croft, Veerle Pieters et al)
- 2:00 Not sure, either the Mobile Web one or the Global Audience one – both are relevant to my job
- 3:30 Practical Accessibility Fixes any Web Developer Can Use (Patrick Lauke, Ian Lloyd)
- 4:05 The Future of JavaScript (Aaron Gustafson, Andrew Dupont)
- 5:00 Uniting the Holy Trinity of Web Design (Cameron Adams, Dustin Diaz, Jonathan Snook et al)
Monday March 12th
- 10:00 Ajax Kung-fu Meets Accessibility Feng-shui (Jeremy Keith, Derek Featherstone)
- 11:30 The Future of the Online Magazine – I should sneak in a bit of Digital Web related stuff while I’m there…
- 2:00 The Growth and Evolution of Microformats (Tantek Celik, Francis Berriman et al)
- 3:30 Bullet Tooth Web Design (Andy Clarke, Jason Santa Maria)
- 4:05 Design Patterns (Luke Wroblewski)
- 5:00 Dunno – either the In-House Design Team one, of the WaSP meeting
Tuesday March 13th
- 10:00 I get the feeling that the Web Typography one will go over old ground, but nothing else really grabs me
- 11:30 Again, um? Maybe the Indie Design Aesthetic one?
- 2:00 And again! Shit, maybe I should just stay in bed on Tuesday…
- 3:30 Ah, hell—let’s just go play pool all day, any takers?
- 4:05 Or maybe I’ll go shopping, my wife’s expecting something more than a duty-free bottle of gin—I wonder how far away the nearest mall is..?
- 5:00 So now I’m back from the mall, and wondering how the hell I’m going to fit everything into the tiny travel bag I brought with me
And you?
Please feel free to fill in the blanks or say where you’ll be hanging out during the conference—as a first-timer, my biggest worry is that I’ll miss The Coolest Thing That Happened At SxSW 2007…

Glad to hear you’ll be attending The Influence of Art in Design on Saturday.
I’m biased, but I just know it’ll rock.
As for me and my agenda, I’ll be honest and say that I’m going to improvise.
Yeah, it might be the smarter thing to plan ahead of time but I love the spontaneity of not knowing where I’ll be.
See you soon.

Cool, looks like we’ll cross paths for at least a few. I’ll be heading back home on Sunday night, but our Saturday and Sunday days have a few events in common. Good times!

This is my second year going to SXSW. I’d say that most of the panels will be really good, and there are so many that you really have a lot of choice. The really fun stuff is the open bar parties :-)
