Wanted: Podcast recommendations
It suddenly struck me this week that I have not been putting my time to most effective use. The 25-minute walk from the train station to the office every morning and evening would be an ideal opportunity to listen to something new, instead of the same random selection of music that iTunes happens to have picked for me that week.
So, my loyal readers, what would you recommend to someone looking for something informative yet undemanding? After an initial look round the iTunes Store Podcast section, I’ve added a couple of BBC Radio programmes (Mark Kermode’s Film Reviews and Radio 4’s Film Programme), but there’s nothing else there that really leaps out as being subscription-worthy.
I’ve also got Andy Rutledge’s new weekly Design View Show podcast, and of course the excellent Rissington Podcast—what am I missing?

Paul Boag is the best, and he does two:
Boagworld.com and the .net magazine podcast.Highly recommended.

Kermode is great but for me frustratingly short. Though for your25 min walk it may be perfect.
I too am a big fan of the Rissington Podcast which is pretty light hearted.
If you are a gamer, the PC Gamer Podcast (US though the UK one is ok) is an sensible and intelligent gaming podcast compared to the more frat boy style of the Gamespot one.
The Web 2.0 Show (for want of a much better name) while podcasting less frequently now has some very good interview with some of the biggest names in the web industry. Well worth going through the back catalog.

Thanks for the suggestions. I occasionally listen to Paul’s Boagworld show, but I’d rather get away from web development for those 20 minutes! I’ve also avoided comedy so as to not giggle like an idiot when walking around in the dark.
I listened to the Filmspotting podcast last night, which was very good—in-depth film reviews, top fives, and other movie geekiness. There are also a ton of screenwriting podcasts listed on the iTunes Store that I'll be checking out over the next few weeks.

If you’ve already got the Kermode, what more do you want?
BBC Radio 4’s Friday Night Comedy podcast is good, with both ‘The News Quiz’ and ‘The Now Show’: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/fricomedy/
If you want US comedy, try the ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’: http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/downloads/
The Mitch Benn podcast is also very good, but he’s only done three of them so far- but they have a certain charm: http://www.mitchbenn.com/podcasts/
That’s a few to be getting on with.
