Neutral Milk Hotel: In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
I listen to a lot of different music—from Mozart to Metallica and everything in between—but this last week, my Last.fm charts have been dominated by just one album.
Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea has been on near-constant rotation since I received it courtesy of an Amazon wishlist Christmas gift from Carolyn Wood (impeccable taste, as ever). From home to iPod to work and back again, it’s the first thing I put on, and when it’s finished I go straight back to the beginning.
It’s that good.
Imagine Dylan meets They Might Be Giants crossed with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah; gorgeous melodies combined with sublime lyrics:
And your mom would stick a fork right into daddy’s shoulder
And dad would throw the garbage all across the floor
As we would lay and learn what each other’s bodies were for
And your mom would drink until she was no longer speaking
And dad would dream of all the different ways to die
Each one a little more than he could dare to try
Edit: To whet your appetite, here’s a track from the album: Two-Headed Boy

Quite good then?
Spose I’ll have to add this to my play list now as well!
