NaNoWriMo – or National Novel Writing Month – is nearly upon us, and yet again I ponder whether or not to attempt the mammoth task.

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

So that’s 6 pages, or just under 1,700 words, per day. Every day. For a month.

Hmm.

I’ve got plenty of ideas with potential – most I’ve always imagined as a screenplay, but they could easily be adapted into a novel – but can I really counter the time commitment?

Ah, hell – there’s nothing worth watching on telly in the evenings anyway. Kids can look after themselves.

Heh.

So, ideas. Um – a young and dashing web designer meets the girl of his dreams, and captures her heart by seeing off his rival suitors with (accessible) swashbuckling standards-compliance…

He wielded his sword with the confidence of the old master, Sir Zeldman. “A-ha!” he exclaimed, pressing his compliant advantage – slash, slash, backslash hack…
